An exciting metropolitan concert hall is springing up in the centre of Eindhoven. The renowned designer duo Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe of Geldrop has turned the Muziekcentrum Frits Philips into a concert hall which by means of lighting, design and technology, is completely in tune with the needs of its visitors. The Muziekgebouw re-opens on Saturday 9th October under a new name: Muziekgebouw Frits Philips Eindhoven
Niels van Eijk and Miriam van der Lubbe were commissioned to redesign both the interior and exterior with a view to putting the Muziekgebouw on the map as a meeting place. Together with Philips Ambient Experience Design and Hypsos, the two designers worked out a natural way from the entrance to the concert hall. The Muziekcentrum is transformed into the Muziekgebouw of the future, a place where lighting, design and technology are integrated innovatively, without becoming a high-tech building.
Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe themselves designed all the elements especially for this project, from the enormous glass facade to the bars and foyers, and from the working wear to the crockery.

The most noticeable change is the main entrance to the new Concert Hall in the Heuvel Galerie. This has been fitted with a forward-leaning glass facade, 25 meters wide and 13 meters high. Behind this is a cultural city-foyer where people are welcome throughout the day for a cup of coffee, and to listen to, and buy music. The city-foyer will be fitted with an ambient wall, on which films, works of art and concerts will be projected. The Muziekgebouw Frits Philips Eindhoven re-opens on Saturday 9th October.
