Under the motto "GLÜCK AUF 2010" (a traditional miner’s "good luck" greeting), a wide array of cultural performances and previews shown at the Zollverein’s many exhibition halls will arouse visitors’ interest and put them in the mood for RUHR.2010. Guests can also walk through the spectacularly lit outdoor "night-time city of arts". The colourful course passes through 50 big and small sites that represent the unique cultural cocktail served by the Ruhr metropolis in 2010. The shine of the "1000 fires" will light up the dark and rambling industrial landscape and transform it into a bright, vibrant and fascinating cultural landscape.
Dutch participation
Several Dutch cultural institutes, sector organisations, independent artists and Dutch cities have joined forces with often German partners to develop plans and projects to be presented at RUHR.2010. A so-called ‘Gastgastgeber’ project will link all Dutch cultural contributions to the RUHR.2010 manifestation. The Gastgastgeber concept, developed by Hans Venhuizen and commissioned by DutchDFA, provides mobile hotel facilities as Dutch examples of temporary hotel accommodation for an expected shortage of hotel beds in the region. They will cross the Ruhr area during peak season of the manifestation, and connect with other elements of the Dutch cultural programme (concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions etc.).
Gilian Schrofer and Jurgen Bey will curate the development of hotels for Dortmund and Oberhausen. Schrofer has designed an elaborate list of highly valued shops, hotels and restaurant interiors. Bey was chosen as curator for his inventive way of re-using materials, forms and meaning in designs for interior and exterior space. The hotels curated by Schrofer and Bey will house sleepers from april to november 2010. To fulfill the multi-disciplinairy goals of DutchDFA, the hotels will also host fashion projecst like a pop-up store or catwalk show to complete the triple theme DFA (design fashion and architecture).
