
6 - 27 March: Taking a Stance in Shanghai, China
The Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAI) and Dutch Design Fashion Architecture (DutchDFA) presented the exhibition Taking a Stance - 8 Critical Attitudes in Chinese and Dutch Architecture and Design at the Dutch Culture Centre in Shanghai. The exhibition centres on the work of eight ground-breaking designers from the Netherlands and China. Dutch designers: OMA (architects), Hella Jongerius (product designer), Alexander van Slobbe (fashion designer), Irma Boom (graphic designer). Chinese designers: Urbanus (architects), Ai Weiwei (architect/artist), Me We (graphic designers), Ma Ke (fashion designer). After Shanghai, Taking a Stance will travel to Beijing and Shenzhen.
March-May: Mapping India
The results of the fact finding mission, or mapping, are meant to stimulate the development of a programme for exchange between India and The Netherlands on a cultural, social and economical level. While the mapping will contain the most important facts, figures and other data, it will at the same time provide insight into the character of the Indian design field and suggest possibilities for collaborations and programmes with the Netherlands. Ultimately the mapping will point the way towards building up and sustaining long-term networks and relationships between the Netherlands and India.
April - July: Market research Germany
An in-depth market research of the German creative industries design, fashion and architecture has started in April 2010. The research will focus on the opportunities for Dutch designers to successfully enter the German market. INHolland research centre for Cross-media, Brand, Reputation and Design Management (CBRD) was commissioned by DutchDFA to perform the study and the results are expected in July.
8 April - 2 May: Dutch Design Awards in Essen, Germany
From April 8 through to May 2 the Red Dot Museum in Essen will host the ‘best of the best’ of Dutch Design, the winners and finalists of the Dutch Design Awards 2009.
27 April - 14 May: Taking a Stance in Beijing, China
After a successful turn in Shanghai, the exhibition ‘Taking a Stance - 8 Critical Attitudes in Chinese and Dutch Architecture and Design’ travels on to the Today Art Museum in Beijing from April 27 to May 14. Next to presenting the work of eight trend-setting designers from the Netherlands and China, the programme includes debates on the position of design in present-day China.
May: Dutch Design WorkSpace opens in Shanghai, China
Dutch Design Fashion Architecture (DutchDFA) has initiated this three-year support programme, in close collaboration with the Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Shanghai Creative Industry Centre, and FAR Architecture & Design Centre. The Dutch Design WorkSpace will be established in Shanghai.
Dutch companies working within the fields of design, fashion and architecture will be offered support through this incubator programme. Special assistance will be given to designers who aim to enter the Chinese market: the programme will accompany them in their first steps in this new and challenging environment. The programme will also support Chinese designers who are interested in developing a closer relationship with the Netherlands.
1 May: opening GastGastgeber at RUHR 2010 in Oberhausen, Germany
In 2010 the 53 municipalities in the Ruhr area will jointly be European Capital of Cultural under the title RUHR.2010. The ‘Gastgastgeber’ project will link all Dutch cultural contributions to the RUHR.2010 manifestation (concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions etc.) and will showcase examples of Dutch design, fashion and architecture in temporary accommodation spaces.
30 April - 23 May: Double Infinity in Shanghai, China
In the multidisciplinary joint art project of the Van Abbemuseum and Arthub Asia, the cities Eindhoven and Shanghai make up the local backgrounds for an intercultural dialogue. Work from the Van Abbemuseum collection including architectural models and an installation by John Körmeling (chief architect of the Dutch pavilion at the World Expo 2010), is exposed alongside existing and new work by Chinese artists selected by Arthub Asia. John Körmeling is also the focal point of the book and a series of performances and lectures included in Double Infinity.
9 - 13 June: (Un)limited Dutch Design at DMY International Design Festival Berlin, Germany
