Dutch architectural firm Hoogte Twee designed a paradoxical house that appears dark and closed from the outside, but is light and open on the inside.

Located in a small area, which forms the transition between a business and a residential area, Woonwerkhuis HdT forms a paradox between design freedom and standard solution that usually form the basis for design development. Hoogte Twee Architecten designed a folded, abstract volume with a closed appearance.

The sloping roof surface and the light receding walls provide a spatial momentum that can be sensed anywhere in this house. For instance, the bathroom furniture, which is lifted to just under the roof, creates a functional divider.

From the outside the house appears as a dark and closed mass, while inside, three patios lighten the space with light and air. Mutual relations between living and work are strengthened and avoided at the same time, which underlines the paradoxical character of this house.
