
4 Sept: Dutch Profiles premiere
The first day of Kyoorius Designyatra 2009 saw the premiere of Dutch Profiles, a series of short documentaries about architects and graphic, product and fashion designers in the Netherlands, commissioned by DutchDFA and produced by Submarine. Dutch Profiles focuses on the conceptual, context-oriented and research-based practice of Dutch designers and includes interviews with, among others: MVRDV, 2012 Architects, Jurgen Bey, Claudy Jongstra, Gerard Unger, Paul Mijksenaar, Philips, Carver, Marlies Dekkers, Alexander van Slobbe and G-Star. More profiles will be added during the coming years.
4-7 Sept: Kyoorius Designyatra in Mumbai
Dutch design visited the Kyoorius Designyatra conference in Mumbai from September 4-7, where the Netherlands was partner country this year. A multidisciplinary Dutch Design Delegation, led by BNO, was complemented by matchmaking sessions, Dutch speakers on architecture, advertising and visual communication, a presentation of the latest Dutch Design Awards, an intercultural workshop on Indian-Dutch cooperation in design processes, a special edition of Architecture + Design magazine edited by Ole Bouman, director of NAI, and Design Dialogues - Mumbai Edition: debates between key figures in Indian and Dutch design aimed at developing an agenda for further dialogue, research and collaborative projects in the coming years.

11-20 Sept : Pioneers of Change in New York
Pioneers of Change showcased fashion, design and architecture in and around eleven Officer’s houses at Nolan Park on Governors Island in New York. This took place during the final festivities week of NY400. Pioneers of Change, curated by Renny Ramakers of Droog Design, encouraged a more responsible and sustainable approach to the way we live, focussing on qualities that are hard to come by nowadays, such as space, fresh air, respect, care, silence, slowness and time. DutchDFA supported Pioneers of Change as part of its parallel programme.

15-22 Oct: SICIW in Shanghai
With the Dutch Design Works programme, The Netherlands participated in the 2009 Shanghai International Creative Industry Week (SICIW). The programme included a presentation about Architecture and Public Space, a Dutch Day involving a conference, a fashion show and a party, and several related activities at the SICIW venue and at other sites in Shanghai.
The Architecture and Public Space exhibition presented the work of offices in all disciplines involved in the process of designing public space: architecture, urbanism and landscape design, planning, product design and graphic design. A simultaneous matchmaking programme was accessible for all creative disciplines. The Dutch Day took place on October 17, starting off with a Chinese-Dutch conference on good practice in public space design, involving government officials as much as architects and designers, and including a fantastic fashion show.
The Dutch participation in SICIW was organised by the DutchDFA programme office, in close collaboration with the Dutch Consulate General in Shanghai and FAR Architecture and Design Center Shanghai.
16 Oct: Incubator programme Dutch Design WorkSpace
The SICIW event in Shanghai also marked the start of an incubator programme for Dutch architects, designers and fashion designers in Shanghai. DutchDFA initiates this long-term support programme in collaboration with the Dutch Consulate General in Shanghai, the Shanghai Creative Industry Centre, FAR Architecture and Design Center and local partners.
The incubator will house design companies that seek to enter the Chinese market and proposes to support their first endeavours in this challenging environment with a programme targeted towards local outsourcing, local regulations, government networks and business setup. Concurrently, the incubator programme will support Chinese designers and companies who wish to develop a stronger relationship with The Netherlands.
10-25 Oct: Social Energy in Shanghai
The exhibition Social Energy, Contemporary Communication Design from the Netherlands, showed the work of eleven Dutch graphic designers including Karel Martens, Studio Dumbar, Lust, Irma Boom, and Mooren & Van der Velden. Social Energy was curated by Li Degeng, Jiang Hua and Wang Min (Dean) of the Graphic Design faculty of CAFA, Beijing. The show’s title reflects their view of Dutch graphic design as a form of social production, reflecting the social concern of the individual designer as well as the characteristics of Dutch society. The Netherlands China Foundation and Mondriaan Foundation supported the show. After visiting Chengdu, Beijing, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, Social Energy travels to Shanghai with some help from DutchDFA to coinc

30 nov-5 dec: Business of Design Week in HongKong
After a succesful BODW in 2008 with several follow-ups in Chinese-Dutch partnerships and start-ups, DutchDFA is looking forward to welcoming you to participate or join in this Dutch trade mission to China.
5 dec-23 jan: Bi-city Biennale of Urbanism Architecture in Shenzen and HongKong
At the 2009 SZHK biennale, several Dutch architects and artists will present their work, including OMA, Maurer United Architects, NAi, Neville Mars, Lara Almarcegui, Go West. The DutchDFA programme has supported the Maurer pavilion and will be showing the Dutch Profiles there.
