Preview of Dutch Design at Milan furniture fair
From 22 - 27 April 2009, for the 48th time, the annual Salone Internazionale del Mobile takes place in Milan. It is the moment for designers and industries to show, and for buyers, journalists and other designers to seek, what is new in design for the home and office. Alongside the Milan Furniture Fair, the Salone comprises the Euroluce Lighting Fair and the SaloneSatellite with a line-up of young creative talent.

However, much of the buzz and excitement during the fair is created outside the fairgrounds, in the Fuori Salone. Spread out over the city, in showrooms, galleries, factories and warehouses, presentations by designers, schools and producers vie for the attention of thousands of Salone visitors. Every year, some unexpected presentations prove to be harbingers of new directions for design, and every year, the game is to find out in time what and where they are before your plane leaves. Quite frequently, one or two of these presentations are Dutch. So, where are the Dutch this year?

Preview, Milan Daily Report and Milan Route by VIVID Gallery
VIVID provides a sneak peek at the most interesting presentations. For the 9th time, Designws.com by VIVID from Rotterdam provides a daily report of the goings-on in Milan. As VIVID says: "The Milan Daily Report 09 is the fastest report on the web. Six days we bring the best photos of the most interesting new furniture, new products and presentations in Milan. If you have only 1 day and you don't want to miss the highlights of this year take the Designws Milan Route." Here's a map for starters.

Situated in the cultural centre of Rotterdam Saskia Copper and Aad Krol started in 1999 VIVID Gallery. VIVID organizes six exhibitions each year on contemporary design. Solo exhibitions presented designers such as Hella Jongerius, Jurgen Bey, Richard Hutten, Wieki Somers, Studio Job, Ineke Hans, Atelier van Lieshout and Jaime Hayon.

Once a year a VIVID exhibition is devoted to a single designer from the past, who's work is inspiring and influential both for present and future generations. Examples are, Joe Colombo, Kho Liang Ie, Wim Crouwel, Centre for Cubic Constructions and Ettore Sottsass.

Over the past 10 years Dutch designers have become established names and several new Dutch design classics were first shown in the VIVID Gallery. The gallery maintains a strong relation with Dutch designers, but at the same time its scope remains truly international.
